Nothing in Nantwich?
Time and time again, young people complain that there’s nothing
to do in Nantwich. There are plenty of clubs and activities for the
under 13’s. Pubs and Clubs provide a variety of entertainments
when you’re legally old enough to use them. But there seems to
be precious little that attracts young people between 13 and 18.
Well, have I got news for you! The Guy Harvey Youth Club in Birchin
Lane has activities for young people three nights every week. There
are, for example, regular film nights, football and pool tournaments,
darts, basketball and fashion shows. The Youth Leaders, Sonia O’Hara
and Dave Short, organise whatever their members want. There’s
a small coffee bar where you can enjoy refreshments and have a quiet
chat with your friends. Special trips such as canal boat weekends and
visits to Alton Towers are laid on whenever funds permit.
The Guy Harvey Youth Club caters for all young people in the Nantwich
Area, no matter what school they attend. The only criteria is that
you have to be 13 or over. Its activities are geared to provide what
the members want. It sets out to offer entertainment and to let young
people enjoy themselves. It allows the members to take responsibility
for organising events and activities, whilst supporting them to achieve
their plans. These activities help the members mature and develop into
responsible young adults within the local community.
The Guy Harvey Youth Club needs help.
What
we need is more
young people and parents to get involved in the management of the
Club
Hector Robb, a member of the Management Committee for over 6 years,
agrees.
We need
to keep in tune with the needs and wishes of the young people of
Nantwich. By involving young people and their parents in setting
the direction of the Club, we will be able to achieve so much more.
If you want to be involved in helping the Guy Harvey Youth Club reach
out and meet the needs of more young people in Nantwich and help improve
opportunities, contact Sonia O'Hara 01270 625581. There’s
so much that can be done and funds can be made available for projects
that engage our youth.
